Loctite
Loctite was founded in Conneticut in 1953, in Dr. Vernon Krieble's Laboratory at Trinity College. The chemistry professor developed a curing system for a unique adhesive that could cure by the exclusion of air - anaerobic adhesion.
Loctite® had its official debut at a press conference at the University Club in New York on July 26, 1956. The promise of having solved the ancient problem of loose nuts and bolts in machines and instruments - a problem that customers had long accepted as inextricably - had been fixed!
In the 1960s, cyanoacrylate - CA (high-speed adhesive - a very fast 1-component adhesive, curing at normal room temperature) was developed under the Loctite brand. Subsequently, mainly silicones, epoxies, acrylics and additional anaerobic and cyanocrylate products followed.
Over time, Loctite has continued to invent markets where no one knew the challenges could be solved with adhesives. From its inception and based on a product that solved an inseparable problem, Loctite has achieved success through innovation.
In 1997, Loctite was acquired by Henkel and remains a primary brand.
